Latin American Studies offers study abroad program in Panama
The College of Arts and Sciences and the Latin American Studies Program at U of L are offering a new Study Abroad Program in Panama. Students participating would stay in Panama from May 5 through June 3, 2002, and take Spanish classes while they toured the country.
Classes offered through the study are SPAN 123, taught by Program Director Rhonda Buchanan; SPAN 321/523, taught by Assistant Program Director Dr. Lisa Wagner; and Modern Languages 313 Special Topics: Panamanian and Central American Culture, taught by Panamanian Assistant Program Director Julio Mosquera.
The program cost is $2595 and includes round-trip airfare to Panama, all ground transportation, expenses for excursions and transportation to and from the airport in Panama, housing at the Florida State University campus in Panama City, up to seven credit hours, breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, and excursion and museum fees.
During the students’ time there, they will be visiting the Panama Canal, Gamboa Rainforest Resort, Causeway in the Canal Zone, receiving a guided tour of El Casco Viejo and Panama La Vieja, and attending a Ballet Folklorico Performance.
They will also have the options of participating in weekend activities with selected contact families, conversing in informal sessions with native Panamanian students, and taking Latin dance classes. The final weekend will be spent at the Decameron Beach Resort.
