This past weekend, Louisville men’s soccer played at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium for their final time in the regular season. The UofL Men’s Soccer Team took down the NC State Wolf Pack with a final score of 2-1.
The Cardinal’s defense was strong and didn’t allow a shot until the 29th minute, which senior goalkeeper Detre Bell saved.
In the 37th minute, the Cards finally got on the board after senior forward Pedro Fonseca converted on a perfect opportunity. The 1-0 score remained going into halftime.
After the break, NC State scored a 68th-minute equalizer, putting the game at a 1-1 draw. However, the tied game didn’t last long. After excellent ball movement and fearless drives by Fonseca and midfielder Eric Danquah, freshman striker Aboubacar Camara scored his ACC leading 13th goal of the year.
The goal came just four short minutes after the equalizer, bringing the score to 2-1.
NC State started to fall behind, as the Cards led with a 14-5 shot advantage and dominated possession. This led to Louisville’s win for the night.
The win added a crucial 3 points; allowing the Cards to stay on top of the ACC standings at 15 points, just barely ahead of Clemson’s 12 points.
Clemson and Louisville will play each other to finish the regular season and determine the champion of the Atlantic Division on Friday, October 29th.
After that, the Cards will anticipate coming home for future post-season matches at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
