Dr. Fred Williams Jr. has resigned from the University of Louisville board of trustees. The announcement came during a trusteeship and nominating committee meeting on Sept. 26.
He submitted his resignation to avoid a conflict of interest once the purchase of KentuckyOne Health hospitals is finalized. Nov. 1 is when the deal between U of L and KentuckyOne is expected to be approved.
Dr. Williams Jr. is currently a endocrinologist at KentuckyOne, specializing in diabetes and metabolism and internal medicine. Once the KentuckyOne purchase is closed he will be an official employee at the university.
He has been serving on the board of trustees since Sept. 2018, with his term set to expire on January 13, 2020. This is the second board member to resign in September, the other being Nitin Sahney.
These two resignations create open spots on the board and leave 11 serving members of the board. Bonita Black and Dr. Ronald L. Wright’s terms both are set to expire on January 13, 2020 as well.
