On Monday, August 30, Louisville men’s soccer team faced Evansville University at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Louisville won with a final score of 2-1.

With the lights finally shining again at the soccer stadium, the Cardinals took to the field for their home opener against the Purple Racers. The team dominated possession in the first half, and had multiple attempts on goal. Still, nothing resulted and both teams entered the second half tied.

The scoreless draw continued until the 63rd minute when Evansville took a 1-0 lead; leaving Louisville little time to catch up.

As the final minutes approached, freshman midfielder Sander Roed scored and tied the game in the 87th minute after a beautiful pass from senior forward Pedro Fonseca.

With less than two minutes after Roed’s score, freshman forward Aboubacar Camara capitalized on a mistake from the defense and struck the game-winner into the back of the net.

After an exciting win, the Cards will move on with a current season score of  (1-1-0). Their next game will be played on Friday, Sept. 3, when they face against inner-city rival Bellarmine University. The Cards will be looking to spoil a historic matchup as it’ll be the first time the two teams face-off since Bellarmine made the jump to Division 1 athletics.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 pm at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, where admission and parking are free for the entire 2021 season!
