SGA, using Justin.tv and a webcam, in order to get their message out to more students, are now streaming their senate meetings live. A link can be found under “Watch Senate Meetings Live” at uoflsga.org.

The next SGA meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m., in room 275 of the Brandeis School of Law. Austin Lopesilvero, the director of SGA Communications, said that the meetings were being streamed live in order to “increase transparency.”

Along with live-streaming, Austin Lopesilvero and his communications team informs students of SGA’s agenda through CardCast, the online news show, the executive report, a letter to faculty and administration and through several social media outlets, such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. The communications team also works on “all of the branding of SGA,” says Lopesilvero.
SharePoint is another outlet for information for students. All of the pertinent documents pertaining to SGA are located in SharePoint . “We’re taking every angle to talk to the students, but it’s difficult to communicate with 22,000 students,” says Lopesilvero.

Austin Lopesilvero has been working with SGA since he was a Task Force intern a year ago when he was a freshman, and plans on getting a career in media. “Since SGA is also students, we see changes that we want to make ourselves,” says Lopesilvero.

“A lot of students get frustrated because lots of us are on different pages, because we’re not all working together as we should,” says Susie Cucura, the Publishing and Marketing Coordinator for Student Affairs, out of Michael Martis’ office.

“This year, SGA wanted to be separate from us. They didn’t want their name associated with us, and that’s fine. Every new administration wants to change things just to make it theirs.”

The Student Affairs Coordinator runs a distribution hub for disseminating information. For those who are affiliated with U of L who would like to have their events posted, go to Louisville.edu/studentnews and click on “Submit Student News and Events” on the column on the left side of the website.

The same link is on all of the student news emails. For the information to be posted that week, it must be submitted by noon on Thursday.
