The Louisville baseball team finished this weekend’s series against Virginia Tech with a 9-3 win. This is the Cards’ fourth sweep of the season.

Kyle Funkhouser started his seventh game of the season. The senior pitcher went 7.0 IP with a season high 11 strike-outs and surrendered five hits. The Cards’ first run came in the fourth inning when Will Smith drove in Devin Hairston on a RBI sacrifice fly to break the scoreless tie.

Virginia Tech scored in the fifth inning to tie the game for the second time. The Louisville offense came alive in the last two innings. A total of eight runs were scored to cap off a strong weekend of batting. Will Smith, Colby Fitch and Devin Mann each recorded two RBI.

Louisville moves to 22-5 on the season and 8-3 in the conference play. The Cards travel to Lexington on Wednesday to play the Kentucky Wildcats. The game will be televised on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m.
