Despite trailing Western Kentucky University 2-0 for the first three innings, the University of Louisville baseball team rebounded to defeat the Hilltoppers 9-2 on Tuesday, April 3. The game, which featured a homerun from both senior outfielder Stewart Ijames and junior first baseman Zak Wasserman, not only showcased the talent of U of L’s team but also focused on Cancer Awareness.

Decorated in pink balloons, Jim Patterson Stadium fully embraced the Cancer Awareness theme of the night. For only $2, the concession stand provided pink lemonade in a cup depicting the Breast Cancer ribbon with inspirational words – such as “strength,” “courage” and “hope” – surrounding it. The team donned black uniforms with pink print. Even the referee wore a pink shirt. The fans also participated in this event, sporting pink attire to demonstrate their support.

Following the first inning, U of L held WKU scoreless, sitting down eleven consecutive players to conclude the game with a victory. Despite the uncertain start, the University of Louisville recovered and reversed their luck, adding another win to improve this season’s record.

The University of Louisville baseball team will take on the University of Kentucky on Tuesday, April 10 in Lexington. They will return home on Friday, April 13 to battle Seton Hall University at 6 p.m.
