Located on the corner of East Burnett and South Brook Street, Burger Boy is a dining gem in Old Louisville. Burger Boy, while not spacious, has a cozy, old-fashioned diner feel. The interior is decorated almost entirely in red. The walls are lined with Cardinal posters, pennants and other fan mementos, like the national championship banner that hangs in one corner. All these items help create a very Louisville-centric atmosphere, giving Burger Boy the classic touch of a hometown burger joint.
The dining area itself is small, with a few tables and chairs placed in the middle and along the outer walls of the establishment. Running parallel to the grill and food preparation area is a counter with stools that patrons can choose to dine at. Sitting there with your arms crossed over the counter while your food is being prepared can make you feel almost as if you’ve stepped into Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks.” And, as far as food goes, Burger Boy offers customers a variety of meals that are very easy on the wallet.
Burger Boy is open 24/7, 365. As such, they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the breakfast menu, omelets are offered at either $2.99 or $3.99. This is depending on whether you want a simple cheese omelet or something more complicated, like ham and cheese, western, or veggies and cheese. Other breakfast offerings include country fried steak, pork chops, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, rib eye and T-bone steak, and toast and jelly.
When it comes to lunch and dinner, Burger Boy has you covered, with a plethora of mouth-watering, fresh-off-the-grill sandwiches. The Burger Boy Double Decker with cheese and sauce is only $1.59 and the Super Burger Boy Double Decker, two quarter-pound patties also with cheese and sauce, is a mere $2.99. Personal experience must take a moment to speak up here and say that the burgers are delicious. For those who aren’t fans of burgers, the BLT, fried cod fish, chicken filet, and ham and cheese sandwiches will only run you $2.99. All sandwiches can be made into platters, adding fries and coleslaw for $2.
Burger Buy is inexpensive and a great value for students. But make sure you bring cash with you, as they do not accept credit or debit cards. If you forget, there is an ATM inside for convenience. Great food for a great price means this reviewer is giving Burger Boy 4.75 out of five stars.
