With the rising costs of post-secondary education, students attending college
are in need of more and more financial aid. The University of Louisville offers
a wide range of scholarships and financial aid services to provide monetary
assistance to students who can benefit from further education but need resources
to help pay the costs. The Student Financial Aid Office also bears a
responsibility to coordinate many federal and state funding sources and
facilitate University awards based on academic performance.
There are various scholarships available for entering freshmen and continuing
students. Those available to Freshmen from Kentucky high schools include the
Trustees Scholarship programs. The TSC offers the National Merit Finalist and
Semi-Finalist awards, Governor’s Scholars awards, Woodford R. Porter, Sr.
Scholarship programs, and Eagle Scout or Gold Award scholarships. Other
scholarship programs for Kentucky residents include the President’s Scholarship,
the Commonwealth Scholarship, the McConnell Scholarship for Political
Leadership, the Ford/EEOC Scholarship, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Endowment
of Peace Award.
Academic scholarships are also available to undergraduate students who have
earned at least 24 credit hours at U of L, compiled a 3.0 or better GPA, plan to
be enrolled at least part-time, and do not have another renewable scholarship or
a bachelor’s degree.
A variety of scholarships are available through individual schools or
departments at U of L. These scholarships are specialized and can be based on a
student’s major, talent, academic achievement, or participation in certain
activities.
Scholarships are available to all types of nontraditional and transfer students
