If the Athletic Department implements the point system for season tickets, they will most likely have to do so without support from the SGA.
The SGA rejected the Athletic Department’s proposal to award points to students who attend games and buy Cardinal merchandise.
However, SGA threw the proposal out completely.
“I’m sure they will do whatever they want,” one senator said. Another senator said the point system was a ploy to bring revenue in for the Athletic Department. Under the proposed system, donations would also earn points. The Athletic Department said all revenue generated from the point proposal would be used for athletic scholarships.
While the Athletic Department could enact the program without SGA consent, Jason Buckner, the Cardinal Athletic Fund assistant director, said he wants to work with the SGA. He plans to meet with SGA officials to discuss different options.
“My inclination is that for now we will leave the [current system] as-is,” Buckner said.
In the current system, the lineup at the ticket campout determines seating priority. In response to complaints of excessive drinking and instances of violence last year, the campout most likely will not extend throughout the night.
The plan to allow students free rides in Yellow Cab has run into a road block. Services Vice President Justin Morehead said he has tried contacting Yellow Cab for three weeks, but they have not responded.
The plan also faces a problem with liability. Morehead said that as of right now, if an intoxicated student died while or after riding in Yellow Cab, the family could successfully sue U of L. Once Yellow Cab makes a proposal, legal advisors at U of L will meet to discuss ways to enact the plan without jeopardizing the university.
