In addition to a first-ever win over an Atlantic Coast Conference school in history, the University of Louisville women’s tennis team recently received a ranking from the International Tennis Association.
“We are extremely pleased to make it into the rankings,” said U of L head coach Greg Davis of the team’s No. 75 ranking.
The Cardinals were last ranked in January of 2003 in Davis’ inaugural season as head coach.
“We are looking to move up higher in the rankings, and are pleased to be on the national stage,” said Davis. The team, with its 8-3 record, lost to New Mexico on Feb. 13 in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
However, the Cardinal’s strongest pair, Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor, took the doubles point when they defeated Michelle Heidbrink and Lucy Scott 8-5. Ariana Marshall and Robyn White also pulled off a win over the Lobos.
The Cardinals also beat Middle Tennessee State 5-2 in a home match on Feb. 12. Louisville opened the match by taking the doubles point, followed by several wins by singles players to ensure a Louisville victory.
“We played a great match against a very tough regional opponent,” said head coach Greg Davis. “The team is really leaving everything they have on the court each match.”
The Cards have a double header on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Bass-Rudd Center, taking on Arkansas in Little Rock at 1 p.m. and West Virginia at 7:30.
On Sunday, Feb. 20, U of L plays Eastern Michigan at the Bass Rudd Center at 12:30.
