The University of Louisville Block Party and Foam Part are among the most popular and largest festivities held during Homecoming Week.
Carnival rides, inflatables and ample food highlighted the annual Block Party, which took place Oct. 12, hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Activities Board (SAB).
According to Jessica Wilmoth, a sophomore international business major and the chair of the Homecoming Committee for SAB, the event had to be moved due to its “increasing size and popularity among students,” which was evident with the more than 2,000 students that attended last year’s Block Party.
The Block Party took place in the parking lot of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, replacing previous years at Brandeis Street and Third Street.
In addition, two live bands, the Menus and Bloom Street complimented the free food and drinks with their performances throughout the night. Following the school fight song performed by the U of L pep band, the Homecoming Court was announced.
The event brought in a significant number of students, proving the Block Party’s main purpose of getting students involved and for them to have a good time, was successful.
“It’s a great way for students to meet other students, and for them to show U of L school spirit and to get involved outside of the classroom,” said Candace Preston, a junior mathematics and chemistry major.
Sophomore Jenna Neff education major also agrees that this event does a great job of bringing students together. “It’s an opportunity for students to get connected off campus,” said Neff.
“I definitely think the Block Party is worth putting on! We try hard to incorporate aspects that appeal to all types of students, and I feel that we do a good job of this,” said Wilmoth. I hope we are able to continue to increase the number of students, staff, faculty, and alumni who are able to enjoy the Block Party!”
The U of L Properties, Athletics Department and the Office of the President were among some of the many groups involved in sponsoring the event.
