Delta Zeta’s 2011 Miss U of L Pageant will take place on March 9, and some University of Louisville students are already anticipating its arrival.

“Miss U of L is an honor title and those that qualify are all great representatives of our university,” said Kelsey Huffman, a junior biology major

The pageant contestants participate in a grueling day of activities in order to be crowned Miss U of L

Megan Imel is a senior communication and fine arts major. She was the 2010 Kentucky Derby Festival Queen. Imel has experience with pageants and understands what contestants go through.

“During the day, the first part of the competition is interview sessions, which is behind closed doors,” said Imel. “The final event before the winner is crowned is the onstage question session.”

Imel also pointed out the many benefits of participating in pageants.

“One of the best things about pageants is that you get to meet a lot of new people,” said Imel. “I [met] lots of my close friends through pageants. When you’re getting ready backstage, you bond with the other girls. The second thing about pageants is they boost your confidence and they help you to be outgoing. I have been doing pageants since I was five. Through pageants, I learned to be poised and friendly.”

The Miss U of L Pageant will take place at 7 p.m. on March 9 in the Student Activities Center. For more information on the Miss U of L Pageant, visit uofldz.com.
