Getting downtown

The downtown location of the new KFC Yum! Center is more accessible to out-of-towners coming to University of Louisville home games. But the location also makes heavy traffic and parking shortages an inevitability. Several new options seek to solve these problems and make game day travel easier.

1. TARC

The Transit Authority of River City will be offering fare-free bus rides downtown on U of L home game days. U of L students with current student identification cards will be able to ride for free to the KFC Yum! Center, on route number four.

2. Louie Link

Several enclosed skywalk bridges now connect the downtown of Louisville. These walkways enable cheaper, more available parking around the Fourth Street Live! area, in addition to providing an efficient way for patrons to get to the waterfront and avoid the elements.

The U of L Student Government Association has encouraged students to explore downtown before the game, since the new arena’s location may make tailgating more difficult. The Louie Link system can help them do this, and avoid much of the traffic.

A complete map of the skywalk bridges is available at lousvillecardinal.com.

3. Miller Transportation

Miller Transportation will be offering a shuttle service to U of L fans traveling to and from home games. Passengers can park at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, where the buses will pick them up. The shuttle will drop passengers off on Main Street, between the Second and Third Street intersections. There will be four trips to the arena, beginning two hours before tipoff, and one return trip. Tickets are $5 each way.
