Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, adresses a crowd at U of L's Brown and Williamson Club.By Michael Kennedy

The Brown and Williamson Club at the University of Lousville was filled to capacity on Friday, April 9 as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a speech for the McConnell Center.  There were more than 2,000 ticket requests in two days, which were free, but there was only capacity for 1,300 people.

“To have the Secretary of State here after such a momentous meeting oversees with the President to talk about nuclear disarmament…is really pretty spectacular,” Gary Gregg, Director of the McConnell Center said.

Clinton flew from Prague, Czech Republic where she witnessed President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sign the New START treaty, which prescribed the measurements for future nuclear disarmaments of both countries.

Clinton was the sixth Secretary of State to address the McConnell Center, and the third high-profile guest of the past year for the Center.  Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Senator John McCain came to U of L earlier.

“I think it’s a very prestigious event for U of L…” said Anna Ramsay, senior finance major.  “She’s a very amazing woman who’s come through a lot and she’s a woman who does a lot of ‘firsts’ for women.”

Clinton’s speech lasted about 30 minutes, and she took several questions from the audience afterward.
