On Wednesday, Dec. 9, the Executive Board of the Athletic Association of the University of Louisville unanimously approved former University of Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong. He became the 21st head coach of the U of L football team.

After his arrival in Louisville earlier this afternoon, Strong and his family were introduced in a press conference at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

“I am deeply honored to become the new head football coach at the University of Louisville,” said Strong, as he addressed the media.

Athletic director Tom Jurich had all eyes on Strong, ever since former head coach Steve Kragthorpe was fired on Nov. 28.

“Charlie’s going to be the perfect individual, to not only coach this team but to lead this team,” said Jurich.

Strong’s contract is five years, thru June 30, 2015, and worth $1.6 million total base, subject to incentives and annual increases.

Strong said his initial focus will be on recruiting and creating a staff, but still intends on coaching his final game with the Gators in the Sugar Bowl against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.
