According to ESPN.com’s Pat Forde, the University of Louisville is set to introduce University of Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong as its next head football coach.

There will be a meeting of the personnel committee of the University of Louisville Athletic Association Board of Directors on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 3:30 p.m. After several days of confirmed conversations and even longer speculation, it is expected that Tom Jurich, U of L athletic director, will name Strong as the new head coach.

U of L finished second to last in the Big East and is looking to replace former head football coach Steve Kragthorpe, who was fired after failing to produce a winning season in his three years with the university.

Strong, who was nominated for the top assistant in college football, has been a top candidate from the start of the coaching search. For the past couple of years, Strong has been considered for several head coaching positions at other universities. He helped lead the Gators to two national titles in three years, with a defense that was ranked in 10 statistical categories.

Strong is thought not only to be the answer to the defensive lapses the Cardinals have suffered from in the past few years, but also to be the solution to U of L’s recruiting woes in the southern part of the country.
