The university has received a $2.3 million grant from the federal government to help prepare Kentucky for future pandemics.
President Dr. James R. Ramsey announced the grant at a press conference on Thursday. associate dean Paul McKinney, and assistant professor Ruth Carrico, assistant professor of the School of Public Health and Information Sciences are co-leaders of the team.
The program is designed for “detection, preparedness, protection, response and recover” of future outbreaks. Researchers will share information with Kentucky mayors and community leaders, increasing communication and preparing a better response and early detection of diseases.
The grant is from the National Institute of Hometown Security for 18 months, with an option for another 18 month period.
