With a chance to advance to a NCAA Super Regional, the No. 12 Cardinals were unable to defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores Sunday night at Jim Patterson Stadium, ending their seven game home winning streak.

The Cardinals, the No. 1 seed and host site for their NCAA Regional, made two crucial errors with the game tied 1-1, and were never able to rebound against the third seeded Commodores in front of the fourth largest crowd in school history.

Overall, Louisville committed three errors while sophomore starting pitcher Bob Revesz gave up four earned runs on nine hits in only three innings, dropping his overall record to 4-2.

Offensively, the Cardinals struggled mightily, with only one batter recording multiple hits and sophomore leadoff batter Josh Richmond going one for five with two strikeouts.

The three through five hitters, junior Andrew Clark, redshirt junior Chris Dominguez, and sophomore Phil Wunderlich, went a combined three for ten, with Wunderlich recording two of the hits individually.

The 8-4 loss ended the month of May on a bad note for the Cardinals, a time in which they went 16-3, secured the Big East regular season championship, and then won the Big East conference tournament.

The Cardinals will have an opportunity to avenge the defeat when they face the Commodores again Monday night at 7:00 PM at Cardinal Park. The winner will move on to face Cal State Fullerton, the second ranked team in the country, for a chance to advance to the college world series.
