Belknap Campus is where undergraduate students spend much of their time, it isn’t uncommon to find students congregating at a variety of places found across the college grounds.
Near the Quad on campus, is Ekstrom Library. Students spend a good amount of their college days here – and not just studying.
Ross Thomas Smith, freshman business administration major, said the third floor of the library is a popular place for students to congregate.
“People go up there to study…and then people go up there to hang out too. You can always find somebody you know up there,” said Smith. “If I am going to the library to study I go to the third floor and find my own little hole, but sometimes I get up to the third floor and just post up at a table with some of my friends.”
The Student Activity Center is a popular place for students to hangout on campus.
The Halftime Grill is located on the 2nd floor, the Multi-Purpose Room and Floyd Theater found on the 3rd and dining options are found on the first two floors. It is a place that lives up to it’s name.
Branching out a little farther from campus, students can also be found downtown.
Louisville is an exciting place for students to hangout on the weekends. While it thrives in variety, downtown is also extremely close to U of L’s Belknap Campus, an additional basis to its appeal.
“Sunergos coffee shop is by far the best in Louisville, especially if you like fine tea,” said Tyler Freiberger, sophomore liberal studies major. “And Proof on Main is also one of the best spots in Louisville, but it helps if you’re 21.”
In downtown Louisville students also find a number of clubs, bars, eateries and restaurants that provide an assortment of dining options for students. Most can be found at 4th Street Live, including: Hard Rock Café, Lucky Strike Bowling, J. Gumbo’s and Sully’s Restaurant and Saloon.
A couple of places that are also popular with the students at U of L are Tailgaters and Headliners.
Tailgaters can be found a little closer to the university and is located just across the road from Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Many students choose to go here after home football games or even to watch an away game with their fellow fans.
“I’ve seen some bigger names in rock at Headliners,” said Amity Hubbard, freshman psychology major. “I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking to get out and have a good time.”
Headliners is a music hall on Lexington Rd. where students often go “to catch some good live music,” said Hubbard.
Café 360, which is better known by students as “Club 360,” is another popular choice for students. The café is located on Bardstown Rd., in the “Highlands,” where several other popular restaurants, dessert eateries, bars and clubs can be found.
With April showers slowly leading into spring, some students choose to stay outdoors and go to any of the parks that can be found in the city of Louisville. Popular among students at U of L are both Seneca and Cherokee parks.
“I like to take my dog out to Cherokee Park for walks sometimes, so he can meet other dogs,” said senior Laura Plaisance, nursing major. “It’s nice to get out whenever there is nice weather, and people are always out there either running or riding bikes or having picnics.”
Students can also hangout for free at “The Waterfront,” which is located on the Ohio River and is within walking distance of several restaurants.
Living in Louisville allows students an assortment of options to hangout with their peers.
