Philadelphia native Musiq, formerly Musiq Soulchild, is an award-winning artist who has become a leader in hip-hop music. He was nominated in seven categories, including Top R&B/Hip Hop Artist, at the 2001 Billboard Music Awards. He also won the award for Best R&B/Soul Single (male) at the Soul Train Awards this spring for his hit “Love.” Musiq will release his second album, “Juslisen,” and its first single, “Halfcrazy,” this spring.

Cee-Lo, a founding member of the hip-hop group Goodie Mob and a founding member of the Southern-based musical alliance the Dungeon Family, is credited with helping revitalize the social consciousness in hip-hop. He recently released the single “Closet Freak” off the CD “Cee-Lo Green & His Perfect Imperfections,” which will be released April 23.

Goodie Mob is perhaps best known for its single “Cell Therapy,” which topped Billboard’s rap chart in 1996. The group has released three albums: “Soul Food,” “Still Standing,” and “World Party.”

Sponsored by U of L and several Belknap Campus organizations, the concert is part of an initiative program to promote diversity at the university. Other sponsoring organizations include: Student Government Association, Student Activities Board, Association of Black Students, National Pan-Hellenic Council and the U of L chapter of the NAACP.
