The SGA Student Senate voted Monday, April 1, to certify the voting totals and reverse a Supreme Court decision resulting in a three-way runoff for the Academic Vice-President race during an emergency meeting. The runoff in the AVP race will be held tomorrow, April 10, from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. between candidates John Daniel and Dave Kaelin.
The Senate voted 22-13 to certify the election results. Daniel abstained from the vote. Some students and candidates had called for a complete re-election after some discrepancies occured in the length of times voting polls were open.
The SGA Supreme Court had originally ruled for a three-way runoff between Daniel, Kaelin and Chris Johnson in Opinion 02-02 after mistakenly announcing Johnson as the second runoff candidate against Daniel. After a technical error was found with the voting results, later inspection showed Kaelin with eight more votes than Johnson.
In certifying the election results, the Senate announced Chris Marlin as SGA President-elect, J.P. Garcia as Executive Vice-President-elect and Sarah Carter as Services Vice-President-elect. The Senate also made clarification in the Arts and Sciences Senate race, announcing Shannon Jeffries as a winner.
