Campout to be held for next year’s sports tickets

Its that time of year again. Student season tickets go on sale Saturday for football and basketball. There are some changes that everyone should be aware of this year. The biggest one is that this year, students standing in line can only get tickets with their own student ID and one other person’s student ID. According to the U of L ticket office, the reason for this change is because in years past, one student would stand in line with their own ID plus seven or eight of their friend’s IDs to purchase tickets for them all. This was seen as unfair because some students didn’t get the chance to get tickets for themselves, even though they had stood in line the whole time.

Tickets will be on sale at the No. 2 gate at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium ticket office. This year, as in years past, you can not buy tickets for basketball only. If you want basketball tickets, you must also purchase the football tickets.

The campout will begin with registration and student ID validation at 7:00 pm Friday evening. At that time, people camping out will have the IDs they are holding checked, and once the IDs have been validated as current student IDs, they will receive a number. This number will designate their place in the line up. The participants will line up and there will be periodic line checks throughout the night.

The first line check will be at 9:30 Friday evening. After this line check is completed, participants will be told when the next line check will be, and will then be free to do whatever they please until the next line check. If a participant is not in their correct spot in line with their ID at the beginning of each line check, their name will be removed from the list and everyone after them will be bumped up one spot. The last line check will be at 6:00 am on Saturday, and participants must stay in line from the beginning of this line check until the end of the ticket sales. If they get out of line for any reason between 6:00 and 8:00 am, they will lose their place in line.

The athletic department will begin selling the tickets, in numerical order, at 8:00 am on Saturday. Unlike last year, payment for the tickets must be made immediately. You may pay with check (made out to University of Louisville), credit card, or cash. If payment is not made at that time, participants will not be able to order the tickets (and will have camped out all night for no reason).

The following rules will be enforced during the campout:

1. Participants in the camp out may hold UP TO 2 current student IDs. The person camping out DOES NOT have to be a student, as long as the IDs they are holding are valid, current student IDs. However, if the person camping out wants to purchase student tickets for next season, obviously, one of the two student IDs they can hold must be their own; therefore, they can only hold one ID other than their own.

2. One student ticket and one guest ticket may be purchased per ID. Therefore, if you are holding two IDs, you can purchase up to four sets of season tickets.

3. Prices for tickets are as follows:

*Student Basketball/Football combo pack: $154

*Guest Basketball/Football combo pack: $198 (in addition to the $154 for the student set, $352 total for a student and a guest combo pack)

*Student Football only: $42 * (athletics has not announced the price on guest tickets for football only).

4. The IDs you hold must be current student IDs, and in order to pick up your tickets in the fall, you must show a current student ID for Fall 2002. If you purchase tickets now and are not a registered University of Louisville student in Fall 2002, you will NOT receive your tickets and your money will be refunded.

5. Seats for the games next year will be done by the order you are in line. Once the tickets are purchased on Saturday, your seat is already set, and the ticket office does not move your seat around to put you near your friends. If you cannot attend the campout at all and someone is going in your spot, make sure they know to camp out next to the people you want to sit with (or the people holding the IDs of the people you want to sit with).

If you have any other questions or need any clarification regarding this email, the ticket sales, or the campout, please email eaverg01@gwise.louisville.edu. Students need to remember that tickets will most likely sell out at the campout, so anyone wanting to have season tickets for next year must either camp out or have someone camp out for them holding their ID.

According to SGA, people will be able to bring grills to cook out on and tents to sleep in.
