The University of Louisville women’s basketball team earned a bid to the 2002 WNIT. The Cardinals will travel to Muncie Indiana to play Ball State on Wednesday March 13 with a tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST. Should the Cardinals advance they will play the winner of the Valparaiso/Michigan game.
Louisville (17-12) will have it’s work cut out for it in Muncie. “They’re 12-0 at home,” said Clapp. “They’re real versatile. They’re kind of a mix between a Cincinnati and a South Florida. They’re going to shoot anywhere between 25-40 threes, shoot a good percentage from the threes. They’re very confident and cocky towards the Cincinnati side, but it’s one they give you some matchup problems.”
“We’re really excited to be participating in the NIT,” said Louisville head coach Martin Clapp. “Not only for our senior players have another shot, to not end on the way that we did against Cincinnati, but we got all but two coming back next year and any time you can build on the talented youth this year to carry into next year then I think that helps you out.”
