A double shooting at the Cardinal Village apartments has left one victim in critical condition.

The victims, Nick Ellis and Eriaun Warwick, were shot after an argument turned violent near Cardinal Village. Warwick was reportedly shot in the face, and is now in critical condition. Ellis, who was shot in the leg, is in stable condition.

RAVE reported the shooting at 2 a.m., and said no U of L students were involved. Darian Gardner witnessed the shooting.

“There was a fight between two groups of people that escalated,” Gardner said. “A bottle was eventually thrown, and then half of everyone in the party pulled out guns and started shooting at everything.”

The University of Louisville Police Department and Louisville Metro Police responded to the crime, but LMPD is handling the investigation. LMPD says the suspects are currently unknown, and asks any witnesses to report details to 502-574-5673.

The shooting comes days before the beginning of freshman orientations, a series of introductory camps welcoming thousands of students to U of L’s campus.

Crime brought gloom to the campus during spring break, with two robberies, one involving an assault, happening within a week of each other. In response, ULPD issued safety guidelines for the area one of the robberies occurred.
