A GoFundMe page has been started for a former University of Louisville student who was shot in the Park Hill neighborhood on Jan. 11, 2026.

First reported by WHAS11, Louisville Metro police officers responded to a shooting at the Duramart gas station on South 7th Street early Sunday morning. Officers found a man shot in his vehicle when they arrived.

The man, who has since been identified as Tyler Bright, was transported to the U of L Hospital in critical condition. He is still in the ICU there.

As reported by WHAS11, LMPD officers believe that Bright was shot from a vehicle leaving the area.

Bright’s aunt, Suzanne Schmidt, started a GoFundMe account for his recovery. She says the bullet struck his neck and caused limited movement in his legs.

According to the GoFundMe page, Bright’s parents live and work in Michigan and are displaced while caring for their son. Donations will help pay for Bright’s care and support his parents while they are in town.

At the time of publishing, the page has raised over $22,930 out of a $35,000 goal.

Bright is a freelance play-by-play broadcaster from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated from U of L in May 2025 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration. At U of L, Bright wrote for The Louisville Cardinal, reported on air for ACC Network and anchored for Cardinals Pulse.

Shortly after graduation, he launched a college football podcast called Bright and Early. According to Schmidt, he planned to move to Iowa in the coming weeks to continue his broadcasting career.
