Speakers at the rally affirmed promises for more financial assistance and consideration to state universities when opening the state budget.

Communication department holds int’l film festival

The first film of the series is "Goodbye Lenin," a German film about the relationship between a mother and her son during the fall of East Germany and the transitional world that derives from this.

Barbaro euthanized, fans mourn Winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby, Barbaro, was euthanized Jan. 29.The decision to euthanize the colt was made by his owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson. The three year old had been recovering from an injury suffered at the Preakness Stakes.

First of all, it is extremely gratifying to know the concisely titled Secretary of the Kentucky Education Department Cabinet believes, emphatically, that education is important. However, it is rather ironic that such an esteemed individual should begin an op-ed piece touting the Governor's efforts to remove financial restraints from higher education while never mentioning specific efforts to do so.

Library encourages campus community to read same book

This month, the University of Louisville Libraries are coming together to host the Big Read, an event that promises to get folks out of that routine, at least for a few days. It encourages the U of L community to read the same book and then come together to discuss it.

Can you play a horn? How about a triangle? Why not join the University of Louisville's new pep band? It doesn't really matter if you're a student or not. You too can paint your face red and play your Cards on to victory. After all, what 65-year-old trumpeter doesn't fit right in with a college band? Under a new plan announced by the athletic department last week, U of L's pep band is being moved from the direction of the music department.
