Barbaro euthanized, fans mourn

Winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby, Barbaro, was euthanized Jan. 29.The decision to euthanize the colt was made by his owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson.

The three year old had been recovering from an injury suffered at the Preakness Stakes. During the second leg of the Triple Crown, Barbaro broke his leg in three places then had 27 nails put into his leg.

Mourners have expressed greif at Churchhill Downs over the week and signed a farewell card and borught flowers.
