On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the University of Louisville Athletic Department will honor Denny Crum when the basketball court at Freedom Hall is officially named "Denny Crum Court." After winning two National Championships and leading the Cards to 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich is honoring the former coach.

The fraternity competitions heated up this past week at the Intramural Billiards Tournament and Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament. Billiards had over 20 singles players and 10 doubles team, while basketball had over 15 teams. But the highlight of the night was the billiards doubles face off that came down to the wire.

Barbaro euthanized, fans mourn Winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby, Barbaro, was euthanized Jan. 29.The decision to euthanize the colt was made by his owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson. The three year old had been recovering from an injury suffered at the Preakness Stakes.

First of all, it is extremely gratifying to know the concisely titled Secretary of the Kentucky Education Department Cabinet believes, emphatically, that education is important. However, it is rather ironic that such an esteemed individual should begin an op-ed piece touting the Governor's efforts to remove financial restraints from higher education while never mentioning specific efforts to do so.
