In a university-wide email sent out Monday afternoon, University Provost Katie Cardarelli announced that U of L has moved all classes on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to temporary remote instruction due to weather-related hazardous road conditions.
University instructors were advised to communicate next steps to their classes on an individual basis in accordance with University Closure Guidelines.
The announcement served as a follow-up to a Sunday afternoon email from Provost Cardarelli telling the U of L community that both in-person and online classes on Monday, Jan. 26 would be canceled. The email also noted that university offices would be working Monday and Tuesday remotely, and that all on-campus activities would be canceled during that time.
Local news station WLKY reported Monday morning that different areas of Jefferson County received various amounts of snow, ranging from five to eight inches. Provost Cardarelli told the U of L community that the clearing of roadways and sidewalks is “progressing well” as of Monday afternoon.
A list of U of L facilities’ updated hours can be found here, although Monday afternoon’s email noted, “Movement around campus will still be hazardous and should be avoided as much as possible.”
Additionally, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear warned Kentuckians in a Monday morning address that Tuesday morning temperatures would be dangerous. “Tomorrow morning, being outside for just 10 to 30 minutes could result in hypothermia or frostbite, so we need everyone to take precautions.”
