In Rob Zombie’s sequel to the 2003 gorefest “House of 1000 Corpses,” Captain Spaulding, Cousin Otis and Baby are back, only this time they’re the ones being hunted when a vigilante sheriff uncovers the family’s murdering, cannibalistic ways. What ensues is a story of torture, mutilation and rape as the three fugitives flee from the law and dispose of everyone who crosses their path in vicious fashion.

“Rejects” follows the archetype of a traditional slasher flick more closely than “Corpses,” which depicted scenes so violent that it took Zombie two years to find a studio who would release his film.

The body count remains the same for “Rejects” but the grotesque images and overall shock value just isn’t there. The movie is more bloody than it is scary. Zombie places too much emphasis the family’s dysfunctional bond and not enough on time developing the storyline.

The extra features offer very little incentive to purchase the DVD. A few Captain Spaulding commercials, a home movie of Otis defiling a cheerleader and a boring talk show add little insight into the movie or its characters. “Devil’s Rejects” is worth renting, but is only worth buying if you’re a hardcore horror movie fan.
