The University of Louisville track and field team traveled to New York City for the 2008 Big East Indoor Championships at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory this past weekend.

The women finished in third place after scoring 79 points while the men came in fifth with 75.5 points. The University of Connecticut won both the men’s and women’s titles.

Leading the way for the women was junior Jere’ Summers with a win in the weight throw after an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 65 feet-4 inches, her best throw of the season.

“She looked very relaxed and very easy in setting that,” Ron Mann, U of L’s head coach, said. “She is one of those ones who has competed well all season. We expected her to do so and she met those expectations.”

With a leap of 19 feet, 9.75 inches, sophomore Amaka Omenyinma finished third in the long jump.
