Women’s BasketballThe Lady Cardinals defeated Indiana University 72-67 in a come from behind victory at Freedom Hall on Sunday, Dec. 4. . They were led by Junior Helen Johnson with a career high 20 points. "I just focused on playing my game and it felt good," said Helen. "Wins are always good. We had enough confidence and poise to step up and make enough plays to pull away and beat a pretty formidable opponent," said Head Coach Tom Collen. "Another positive was we got Helen Johnson out there and on track. We need to get her out there and get her going. She plays well in transition and we were able to let her freelance a little bit." Next, the Cards take on Xavier on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. in Freedom Hall. Volleyball The No. 9 ranked U of L volleyball team proved victorious over Maryland in a three game sweep on Dec. 3, winning 30-23, 30-26, and 30-28. Senior Lena Ustymenko led the Cards with 20 kills and 11 digs. "We didn’t have the laspses we had last night," said Head Coach Leonid Yelin. "We just had barely one day to prepare so you just have to focus on your own strengthsand execute your own game plan." With this win, U of L qualifies for the sweet 16. Next, they will face No. 8 Florida on Friday, Dec. 9.
