This is a great month to check out what the Student Activities Board has showing at the Floyd Movie Theater on the third floor of the Student Activities Center. General admission is $2 and if students bring their Cardinal Card admission is only $1. Limited concessions are also available at the box office.Starting yesterday, Sept. 18, at 4 and 8 p.m., was the premiere of “The War Tapes.” This is a documentary mostly comprised of digital camera footage filmed by ten men who were part of a National Guard Unit in Iraq. The unit was based in LSA Anaconda in the deadly Sunni Triangle. The story follows three men and their life at war, including combat and dealing with long-distance relationships. The soldiers tell a story of over 1,200 combat operations and 250 direct enemy engagements. This film also marks a new era of war movies. Never before has technology been available so that soldiers would be able to film footage themselves and build a movie to tell their story. Instant messenger and email played a big part in putting this film together because that was their way of communicating with Director Deborah Scranton. These are real lives telling a real story of what is actually going on in this war.
