University Opera Theatre presents

Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Mikado’

The University of Louisville’s School of Music presents “The Mikado” as part of U of L’s Opera Theatre series on Friday, April 21, and Sunday, April 23.

Opera Theatre, in association with the School of Music, is an annual musical theater performance with orchestral accompaniment occurring every spring semester. This year’s production is W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s “The Mikado,” the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan opera, and possibly their most famous.

The performance will be held in the Kentucky Center for the Arts’ Bomhard Theatre. The show will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students.

Hypnotic Revolution Fashion Show to be held April 22

C.O.N.E.C.T, a peer student mentoring program designed to assist new students (with a special emphasis on students of color) making the transition to college, and SOAR, Student Organizations for Alumni Relations, will be presenting a fashion show April 22 at 6 p.m. in Strickler Auditorium.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Student Activities Center.

Photo exhibit

features homeless in Louisville

 

The photo exhibit “Close to Home” in the lobby of Ekstrom Library will be running until Sunday, April 30.

Featuring large-scale photographs of homeless men, women and children in Louisville, the exhibit also tells stories of those served by Louisville-area shelters. Over 80 people participated in the project.

A panel discussion will be held Wednesday, April 19, from 2-4 p.m. in the Ekstrom Library Auditorium.

Admission to both the exhibit and discussion is free.

 

Thunder Festival 2006 explodes over downtown Louisville

Thunder Over Louisville, the opening ceremony of the Kentucky Derby Festival, will be held Saturday, April 22, in downtown Louisville at the riverfront.

Festivities will be held throughout the day, with an air show at 3 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and sunscreen for this outdoor event.
