Where is your school spirit?By Glypie Grider

Calling all Cardinal fans:What do you think it means to “Think Big”?

It’s not just Brohm and Bush plastered on a billboard sign on I-65 — it’s about making a program bigger than it’s ever been before.

As U of L begins its stint in the Big East conference, fans are needed now more than ever. The student section, comprised of L- Raisers, the Cardinal Chompers, cheerleaders, and the RedShirt Co., need to unite and support our nationally ranked athletes in style.

It won’t happen overnight, but Cardinal fans must pump up their passion, pride and appearances at athletic events.

Jason Buckner, former L-Raisers adviser, said it would be hard to maintain a strong student presence for nine months, especially for sports other than football and basketball. But, as Buckner explained, “The famous student groups you see on TV are that way from soccer to rowing. They have school spirit — not just basketball spirit or football spirit,” he said.

The L-Raisers’ plan for the upcoming school year is to cheer at key sports games. Once the Cardinal spirit is established, Jon Cecil, a representative on the L-Raiser Executive Council, said student energy and enthusiasm will trickle into all U of L sports.

It won’t take too long for the trickle effect to work, especially with the constant chatter about a new basketball arena and all the other athletic facilities circulating around campus.

Louisville is in a new conference, and first appearances are critical. This is the perfect time to elevate your school spirit.
