Field Hockey Cards beat the No. 16 Buckeyes 2-0By Pk Bartley

On Wednesday University of Louisville’s field hockey team hosted 16th ranked Ohio State at Trager Stadium. U of L came out playing very aggressively, keeping the ball on their side of the field for most of the first half. Even when Ohio State was able to get the ball on the Cardinal’s side of the field, the U of L defense stopped them from getting very many good looks at the goal. The few shots that the Buckeyes did get went wide of the goal.

A defensive struggle, the firs half end in a scoreless tie.

In the second half the game became more physical, but this did not bother the Cardinals. Senior midfielder Pip Sanders got U of L on the board with her goal at the 26:44 mark, to make the score 1-0..

Following the goal by Sanders, U of L kept putting pressure on the Buckeye defense. This strong defense earned U of L their second goal by senior forward Joanie Frame off an assist from Sanders at the 21:26 mark..

After dropping back to back games to Top-20 teams the Cards feel they are now back where they belong. “We are back on track,” Frame said. “We’re all working real hard to get things back in order. We’re working hard on our press and our offense and defense. And I think we’re finally getting back in sync with each other and playing off each other better.”

The win snaps a two game losing streak for U of L, and improved the record to 3-2. However, things will not get any easier for U of L. The Cards have a four game road trip to close out the month of September.

The Cards’ next home came will be Wednesday October 2nd against Indiana.
