Before the America’s Next Top Model craze swept the nation, the U of L Student Activates Board utilized fashion to bring people together. This Thursday they will do it again. November 9th at 7:00 PM in the Multipurpose room of the SAC, the SAB will host the annual International Fashion Show.

“This year’s theme is ‘Get Exotic’, and as in years past, we expect each group to go all out.” says Sushma Chennubhotla, Vice Chair of Diversity of SAB. The International Fashion show at U of L is one of the original events dating back to the first year of the SAB. With each year the “fashion show” has progressed into more than beautiful models working the catwalk. The International Fashion Show now, has developed into much more of a multicultural celebration.

The evening will educate, inspire, and allow the unique cultures represented here at U of L to strut their stuff. The fashion show is an entertaining way to connect the cultural groups on campus with their heritage and traditions as well unite and appreciate others. During a time when cultural identities are used to divide, the International Fashion Show is a brilliant expression of the beauty of culture.

Each cultural Recognized Student Organization (RSO) is allowed ten minutes to perform an ‘exotic’ presentation. The performances are designed and choreographed by the individual group, and should be tied to the overall theme. RSO’s such as the Asian Student Association and the Indian Student Association will be represented. With previous acts ranging from Japanese traditional dancing, to a Disney movie themed American presentation there is no shortage of entertainment and imagination. “We will, also, have all kinds of ethic cuisines,” added Chennubhotla.

Adding to the multicultural celebration, twelve different ethic restaurants are joining together to cater the event. “We want students to come and enjoy the evening. We have even had some alumni return for the event.” Chennubhotla concluded.

The International Fashion Show is free for students and faculty and $5 for the general public. Whether you are an aspiring model, actor or dancer, or maybe just a Thai food connoisseur, it seems there is no better place to be than the International Fashion Show on Thursday night at 7 PM.
