Students come together after Va. Tech tragedy

Today in Louisville, it was a beautiful, sunny Tuesday but yesterday was April 17, 2007, the day of the deadliest massacre in United States history. Our nation now mourns the 33 lives that were lost at Virginia Tech yesterday.

As I walked across campus today, I saw many of us Cardinals wearing orange ribbons in silent remembrance of those who are gone. I saw the students of U of L band together in prayer, in silent glances, in understanding; I saw us come together as a community.

This is our university; this is our college experience. Take time, as you walk to class or eat lunch with friends to remember that the days and lives we live are short, fleeting moments in time. This week we have been fortunate, this week it was not our school or our lives. We cannot change what has happened at Virginia Tech; we can only keep the victims, their families, and all of those at the university in our prayers. So in memory of those who are now gone, the 33 names and faces that we now see on the news: Enjoy this precious day and live your life to the fullest.
