Sorority to throw homeless slumber party
Zeta Phi Beta sorority will be sleeping out in the Red Barn this Saturday night to benefit the homeless. They will be collecting gently used clothes and canned goods for Salvation Army and a speaker form the Coalition for the Homeless will speak at the event that begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and ends 6 a.m. Sunday. The event will feature free food and attendees are asked to bring sleeping bags, pillows, games and any other choice items.
RSO shines light on poverty
The Rev. Al Herring was the keynote speaker for Students United for Peace and Justice’s annual Hunger Banquet. The event was held last Thursday evening in the Red Barn. Attendees discussed poverty and ideas about changing individuals’ views of the issue.
Volleyball tournament to get dirty
The Student Government Association’s first annual Mud Volleyball Tournament is set to take place noon April 15 at Church Hill Park. Registration deadline is April 6 for teams of six-10 at $50 per team. Proceeds will benefit the Louisville Park Beautification Fund.
Keeneland sponsors scholarship day
The Keeneland Race Track in Lexington will is sponsoring a Scholarship Day Fri., April 6, at the track. Ten $1,000 scholarships will be given away with ten video iPods. Full time students with college IDs are eligible to win.
Biology Assoc. throwing frisbee tourney
The Biology Graduate Student Association will be holding a disc golf tournament Sat., April 9, at Iroquois Park in South Louisville. The event is co-sponsored by the Louisville Disc Golf Club, begins at 10 a.m., and proceeds will benefit the BGSA for travel grants. Contact amber.carrier@louisville.edu for details.
Students plan Relay for Life
The University of Louisville chapter of Colleges Against Cancer has begun planning their first annual Relay for Life event, which is an overnight walking event that raises money for the American Cancer Society.
