Over 50 representatives from various University of Louisville departments were on hand for the fifth annual Majors Fair last Thursday.

The Career Services Center and REACH hosted the 90-minute event in the Red Barn, offering students the chance to explore 30 different majors in one setting.

That variety is what makes the majors fair important to students who have not yet declared a major or are interested in switching their current major.

“The majors fair gives students an opportunity to look at other majors, even if they think they may have it figured out,” said sophomore psychology major Polly Hamilton. “It basically helps you keep your options open.”

Vickie Halsell, director of the REACH program, said having academic advisors and faculty members on hand was one of the advantages of the majors fair.

Sophomore business major Alisha Skinner agreed. “I really enjoy the majors fair [because] it connects me to teachers and faculty who know the answers to my questions,” she said.

Halsell said the important thing to remember is that a major and career are very different. “Even those that are decided on a major may not know a job that they want to do,” she said.

The Career Services Center will host a career fair April 12 from 12:30-4 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Multipurpose Room. Over 85 employers and hundreds of jobs and internships will be available.
