Council says tuition relief goes unused

Millions of dollars in education tax credits and tuition deductions will go unclaimed by taxpayers in Ky., according to a statement released by the state Council on Postsecondary Education. “The tuition tax credit encourages more Kentuckians to attend our colleges and universities,” Gov. Ernie Fletcher said. “It is another useful tool to ease the burden of educational costs for Kentucky families.” According to the council, the average return on deductions is over $2,418.

RSA, Arts & Sciences to elect leaders

Two University of Louisville organizations plan to elect leaders this week for the 2007-2008 school year. The College of Arts and Sciences will elect representatives for its student council today through Thursday. The Resident Student Association began its executive election yesterday, and will last until Friday. Both elections are on ULink.

Students to bike to global warming rally

Green Thumb invites students to join a bike ride from Belknap Campus to the “Step It Up 2007” rally on global warming. Cyclists will meet at the West Lawn at noon and then bike to the rally at the Mazzoli Federal Building in downtown. The rally will feature information booths, speakers, Rep. Star professor to give Hubble talk

Dr. Elizabeth Kessler from Stanford University will visit the University of Louisville Thursday at 7 p.m. to deliver a lecture entitled “Astronomy’s Landscapes: Aesthetics and Science in the Hubble Space Telescope Images.” The lecture will focus on the artistic value of Hubble telescope photography. The free public lecture will be held in the Rauch Planetarium on the Belknap Campus.

Mortar Board seeks applicants

Applications for the Pallas chapter of the Mortar Board, a senior academic honors organization at the University of Louisville, are due Friday at 4 p.m. Applications are available in the Student Activities Center, room W301. Students with junior standing by August and a GPA of 3.15 or above are eligible.
