After returning from a well deserved and much needed spring break vacation with my family, we met some friends for a late lunch following Sunday Mass
services.  My friend introduced me to the “Government should step up to
promote education” article sent in by Abby Rathbun.  It made for wonderful
 conversation.

I just first want to say that this article is precisely the reason
government should stop intervening.  This outrageous entitlement mentality
is exactly what has brought our country to the current state of economic
turmoil we are in.  I could go on and on about stimulus and how without
feeding money DIRECTLY into the economy there is none.  That these insane
detours into arts funding and road repair is ludicrous, but I will refrain.

What I will discuss is the sincere disappointment in America’s so called future and the colleges that are lacking the educational tools to provide it.

Government is made up of people and of people’s money.  It does not create  money and then divide it amongst its employees or citizens.  It requires
you to pay it.  It is much like renting.  I am certain that Miss Abby has
heard her parents state that money does not grow on trees and if not, then
please Dear Abby heed my warning.  It does not.  Money and wealth are earned  by great sacrifice, blood, sweat, and a tremendous amount of hard work.  The  government then asks that you give them a percentage of that hard earned  money state wise to take care of roads and schools and local government  employees.

Federal government requests that you sacrifice for social  security, and welfare, and again, for the salary of its employees and law  makers, and for those who choose to live their lives in the defense and war  determent of our constitution.

My dearest Abby, you are a whiner and a  complainer and I have a solution for you.  It is one my husband, myself, my  father, my grandfather, my in-laws, my husbands father and grandfather and  siblings, and many dear friends have, when in your position, decided to take  as well.

You see I am disappointed that the university has provided you with an  education that leaves much to be desired, seeing as you are a double major  in political science and economics.

It is not the governments responsibility to make higher education
affordable.  It is now your responsibility to provide for yourself.  Welcome
to the real world sweetheart.  This is a place not of warm hugs and soft
kisses, but that of grown men and women waking up at all hours to provide a
roof over their heads and food in their tummies.

My husband has now served over 20 years in the United States Army.  He,  unlike myself, did not struggle growing up.  He as well as his nine  siblings were provided with a private school education, but college was left  to them.  Some paid with loans and scholarships, other did as he did.  None  requested government assistance, I guess because who in their right mind  would?!

During his time, my husband has managed to go to college and earn a degree while deploying twice overseas and raising three children with number four on the way.  He manages to work 14 hour days without complaint while living an entire  state away from his family due to his son having special needs and his  specialists practicing in Louisville.  While paying for his own degree, he  manages as well to pay for the private school of his children and allowing  his wife to stay at home and tend to the needs of his children those with  special needs and those without.  He does not get paid overtime and does not  request that anyone help him.  He is grateful to his parents for giving all
of themselves to him for the first 18 years and then grew up and realized it  was time to give back, not only to his parents, but to the country that  provided a safe democracy for him to live in.  Now…  here is my solution  for you.

My husband is currently working for USAREC and I know for a fact recruiters  are at work six days a week.  They would be happy to provide you with the help  that you need.  But you have to be willing to give back, unlike the welfare   you are currently requesting that all of us sacrificing tax payers give you.

The Army will pay 100 percent of your education and depending on the job you  choose, they will also pay back your student loans.  They will provide you
with a steady paycheck and 100 percent medical benefits.  You would then be able to  pay rent (although housing would be provided for you), you would be able to  eat for free or be given a food allowance, you would be able to fix that
clutch on your own or even buy a new vehicle.  How about you can start
stimulating the economy on your own with your own money?

My dear Abby, the  government has already provided a solution for you.  It is called the  Montgomery GI bill and all you have to do is step up to the plate, grow up,  and realize that we are not your Mommy and Daddy, we have children of our own.
