Dr. Manuel Martínez-Maldonado, Executive Vice-President of Research at U of L, will be highlighting the Puerto Rican arts tomorrow.
Although Martínez-Maldonado is intricately involved with U of L’ s sciences, his talents are not limited to so. From 2001-2005, he presided over the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and the Board of the Corporation for Musical Art. He is also an award-winning poet with several published works.
His most famous poetry books are: “La voz sostenida” (“The maintained voice,”) “Palm Beach Blues,” “Por amor al arte” (“For the love of art,”) “Hotel María,” and “Novela de mediodía” (“Novel of the moon.”) In his coming lecture, Martínez-Maldonado will illustrate the literary and cultural arts of Puerto Rico as well as read from his own works and include his personal creative processes derived from his heritage.
The event will be held at the Belknap Research Building Rm. 139 at 1:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Latin America and Latino Studies Program.
