Two students were arrested yesterday in connection with $50,000 in computer equipment allegedly stolen from the University of Louisville, university police said.

Nick Tisdale, a student in the Speed School of Engineering, and Matt Fritsch, a student at Bellarmine University, were taken into custody after police found “property linking them to the thefts,” when a search warrant was served, said Maj. Kenneth Brown. Brown is the assistant director of the U of L Department of Public Safety.

He said the computer equipment was taken from the university over the last several months, and some of it was found in the South Fifth Street where the warrant was served. It was unclear whether the men owned the home, but Brown said police had evidence connecting them to the residence.

“We traced [the computers] back through eBay. We started monitoring eBay and saw our stuff going out,” Brown said. He explained the computer serial numbers were on file at the university and were linked to items being sold on the popular auction site.

The equipment will be held as evidence until after the court case, Brown said, but then will be “returned to its rightful owners.”
