Students who have considered pursuing a career in public administration or are interested in working for a non-profit, business, political or public organization are encouraged to attend a roundtable event sponsored by the Metropolitan Louisville American Society for Public Administration Association and the University of Louisville Department of Urban an Public Affairs.
The panel will focus on answering any questions students may have on pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.
The event will be held on Thurs., March 29, in the Chao Auditorium in Ekstrom Library from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Members of the panel all have careers in the public service area and will discuss the importance of pursuing an MPA degree.
Anyone who enjoys making a difference in the community should work in public administration, said Jana Goemmer, the house manager of the Louisville Ronald McDonald House. “A degree in public administration provides the management skills to effectively operate public programs in either the government or non-profit sectors.”
With the slogan of “advancing excellence in public service,” some of the goals the ASPA pursues are to promote the value of working in the public service area and to provide networking and mentoring opportunities to those who practice the profession.
Dr. Leonard Bright, current president of the Metro Louisville ASPA, said he “hopes this roundtable will increase attendees’ understanding of the importance of an MPA degree and encourage attendees to pursue such a degree.”
The ASPA roundtable panel event is free. Students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited.
Parking will be provided by U of L, at the Third Street Green Parking Lot, which is located going south, just past Eastern Parkway.
