Junior Louisville linebacker Lamar Myles has declared himself eligible for the June NFL draft and has signed with an agent.

Myles was named second team All Big-East and led the Cardinals in tackles this past season with 128.

“The time is right for me to move on to the NFL,” Myles said in a statement on 790 WKRD. “The coaching staff helped me improve as a player and I look forward to competing in the NFL.”

Myles most productive performance of his career came in a loss against rival University of Kentucky this past season, in which he had 22 tackles.

He ended the season with three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and eight tackles for a loss.

The Cardinals graduated their other two starting linebackers, Malik Jackson and Preston Smith. Backup linebacker and special teams specialist Terrance Butler also graduated.

Myles was a weight lifting champion as a high schooler in Florida. In 2004 he bench pressed 455 lbs., a record for the 219 lb. weight class in the state of Florida. He also clean and jerked 365 ponds, also a record.

Myles accumulated 196 tackles in his career at U of L. He got his first career start as a redshirt freshman against Oregon State.
