High court to review donors
The Kentucky Supreme Court will decide next month whether the public should be able to know how much public agencies, like the University of Louisville, receive and spend money from private donors.
Nursing, chemistry win awards
The University of Louisville’s School of Nursing and Department of Chemistry will each receive $25,000 through the Paul Weber Awards for Departmental Excellence in Teaching. The award is named after the late Paul Weber, a U of L political science professor and the first chair of the McConnell Program for Political Leadership.
U of L to own portion of cancer firm
The University of Louisville is set to own 30 percent of an unnamed new firm responsible for putting new cancer-fighting drugs on the market. The company, owned primarily by private investors, is meant to offer “regulatory expertise” to the Brown Cancer center, according to Director Dr. Donald Miller.
ULDM hopes to raise $50K for Kosair’s
The 2007 University of Louisville Dance Marathon is slated to take place Feb. 24-25, in the Multipurpose Room of the Student Activities Center. The annual event is aiming to raise $50,000 for the Kosair Children’s Hospital. Volunteers must attend a mandatory session on Feb. 19 or 20. For more info, visit http//www.uldancemarathon.com.
Sororities to throw V-Day parties
Sororities Chi Omega and Sigma Kappa of the University of Louisville are having Valentine’s Day parties, which are open to all Greek and non-Greek students. The Chi Omega party will be at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, at the Chi-O House. Tomorrow, Sigma Kappa will host one at their house, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New grievance officer appointed
Professor Brenda Hart from Speed School of Engineering has been appointed as the Student Grievance Officer. The main role of the officer is to inform students of their rights as listed in the Student Handbook.
