For the few days before and during finals, there will be a few changes in student services. Ekstrom Library has posted new hours as the semester winds down, and U of L bookstore will up their payback for textbook returns.

Beginning April 27, Ekstrom will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at midnight. Weekend hours will also be extended.

The campus bookstore, located in the Student Activities Center, will be increasing the amount of money they pay to buy books back. From April 25 to May 6, students may receive as much as the retail value for their textbooks.

Scott Schuknecht, an employee with the campus bookstore, said that, as part of a new program the bookstore is trying, if certain books are being re-used by professors next semester, then students will receive the retail value. Students returning books that will not be re-used will receive the wholesale value of the books. This offer also expires May 6.

“Sixty percent of the books that will be used next semester are known and we should know the rest [of the books] soon,” Schuknecht said. The campus bookstore will be operating at normal hours during finals week.

Students feeling the pressure of preparing for finals should take note of a few other changes. Officials with the counseling center on Belknap campus request that students make an appointment with them before coming to the office. For the next few weeks, the center will be understaffed and unable to handle walk-in patients except for emergency cases. To make an appointment, call 852- 6585. The Student Health Center will keep its normal hours during finals week.
