Love:
University administrators and student government officials have worked together to improve commuter student services as well as provide ample amenities for U of L’s largest demographic in order to enhance their collegiate experience. Kudos to Barbara King and the employees of Commuter Student Services, located in Davidson Hall, for their work in improving commuter services and attempting to better understand an often underrepresented and unappreciated group of students. All 17,000-plus of them.
Hate:
It’s a tale of two cities at U of L: the 18-year-old who scours mommy and daddy’s pockets for loose change and the 27-year-old single mom who holds a part-time job and commutes 20 minutes to school everyday. The latter represents U of L’s largest and most underrepresented demographic with their needs for collegiate success dissolved into a single room in Davidson Hall. Administrators and student officials need to understand that these students, our peers, deserve better. A single room with poor resources will not suffice.
